''I love it,'' the Five Dock girl said. ''I've been playing since I was four.'' The Rosebank College student is currently playing for a rep indoor team, Enfield Rovers. This is her first season playing indoor soccer and she loves the speed of the five-a-side game. ''It's really fast but I like the games fast because you can use a lot more footwork and skills,'' she said. ''It's a lot of fun and pretty intense.'' In the winter months, the Year 9 student plays rep soccer for Gladesville Ravens, where she plays left midfield and left for- ward. The Colombian-born teenager supports Sydney FC and Brazil, and said her proudest moment was being selected for a State team for Sydney East in Year 6. Women's soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia and Courtney said girls' skills were catching up with boys. ''In the past women's soccer hasn't got as much attention but with the Women's World Cup, it has been getting more popular and I think it raises the bar for women's soccer,'' she said. ''I think some boys find it interesting if you're playing for a rep side, they often don't realise that girls take it so seriously.'' And Courtney definitely takes her soccer seriously -- regularly practising her signature moves at home. ''I practise step-overs and all that crazy stuff,'' she said. ''Sometimes I play with my brother and his friends on the street. ''It's a great game and I'd en- courage other girls to try it.'' Courtney is this week's nominee for the Inner-West Weekly's Junior Sports Star of the Year award. She is the running to win $1000 and a medal.
