Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : October 15 2008
30 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, October 16, 2008 MB STREETVIEW Music drums up support Janette Chung Ivan Plavec Karina Dempsey Dominic Walster Justine Whipper Most Inner West locals feel as though Strathfield needs to knock it up a beat and have live local bands performing in cafes and restaurants. We went to Strathfield to ask why. Janette Chung, of Strathfield: I like live music so it would be great to have it in Strathfield CBD. I don't see much live music around here; that's why I go out into the city. And it would be great for people like me who appreciate local music. Karina Dempsey, of the Blue Mountains: I'd like a bit more entertainment. I enjoy listening to bands and it will liven up the area a bit more. I've come from the mountains and it looks very depressing here so it would be good to see some local entertainment and have live bands. Ivan Plavec, of Homebush: I come here every second sunday for a coffee and there's a lot of things that could be done to spice up the place. But you have to consider the demographic -- would they like it? I personally would like to see more local bands at pubs or cafes, even a stage here in the CBD would be good. I don't think cafes would have the space but you've just got to get the people to support it. Dominic Walster, of Ashfield: The area is boring and it would be good to have have bands playing while your having a coffee but it has to be good music, young music. Justine Whipper, of the Central Coast: I'm more of a DJ person, I prefer covers and Top 40s music, but if they were performing things you hear on radio it would be good. I think owners should support and encourage live bands and it will draw more people into their business and keep everyone happy.
