OPEN: Lunch weekdays and Sunday noon-3pm. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday 6-10pm PROFILE: Fiona Brady Oliveto makes its own olive oil. I'D heard a lot of good things about Oliveto. Since opening in 2004, the younger sibling of Leichhardt's renowned Grappa restaurant has established its own impressive reputation. It's run by couple Alessandro and Carmen Milozzi in partnership with Carmen's dad Tony and brother Charlie Colosi who started Grappa. Like Grappa, the food is modern Italian. My dining companion raves about the linguine with prawns, broad beans, basil, peas and chilli ($22.50), one of the daily specials. We also sample the mixed seafood grill ($38) which, on the day that we visit, is composed of barbecued barramundi, octopus calamari, moreton bay bugs, scallops and prawns. Accompanied by Oliveto's homemade bread dipped in their own brand of olive oil, this dish sends me to seafood nirvana. We don't try dessert but hostess Carmen Milozzi says the vanillabean panna cotta, champagne jelly, blueberries and strawberries ($14.50) is one of the best- sellers. It's the little touches like the family's own brand of olive oil (available for sale) and the homemade gnocchi, ravioli and pappardelle that make a visit to Oliveto such a memorable experience. And the fact that Carmen's dad rises in the wee hours every morning to handpick the fruit and vegetables for both restaurants at Flemington Markets. Unsurprisingly, given Oliveto is such a family business, families are made very welcome here by the restaurant's very professional and welcoming wait staff. And the view is pretty good too. Oliveto is in the picturesque Brays Bay Reserve, looking out over the water. Its floor-to-ceiling windows and modern, unfussy fittings wisely make the view the star attraction.
