Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : October 29 2008
20 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, October 30, 2008 STREETVIEW Parking meter madness Jenny Magill Emad Saleh Ross Torpy Peter Dawson Frank Clarke Elderly patients and medical practitioners are fed up with the parking meters on Railway Pde, Burwood, saying they don't work and are unfair. Burwood Council is now considering the future of meters across the CBD. We took it to the streets of Burwood, asking locals why they don't want them. Jenny Magill, of Homebush: Parking meters are just a pain. They don't work all the time and it takes money and doesn't give back a ticket. They fined a patient when they were only three minutes late. The doctor wrote them a letter saying he was running late but they didn't care. It was a fairer system when they had the hour parking and they have only two disabled parking spots. We need more because we have a lot of elderly people and it's not fair for them. Emad Saleh, of Burwood: All they want to do is make money and they are pretty ruthless when it comes to over-staying the meter. Some parking officers are good and some are bad. I use to be here when they had the hourly signage and I prefer it like that. It's just disgusting. Ross Torpy, of Breakfast point: All parking meters are ridiculous and when it was hourly parking it was easier because it was more convenient for everyone. It's all for revenue. Peter Dawson, of Leichhardt: I don't have an issue with it at all. I'm aware the parking is difficult here which is why I get my wife to drop me off and pick me up when I visit the doctors. But it's not an issue for me at all. Frank Clarke, of Five Dock: I think the signage is better than the meters. You put the money in there and it asks for a credit card but I don't want to put my card in a street machine, I don't know what's been in there. I had to leave a sign in my car saying I tried putting in $2 but it wouldn't take it. OPINION For your nearest store phone: 1300 665 271 Call charges apply.
