Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : November 5th 2008
MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, November 6, 2008 31 Employee Excellence Pat Baudille is congratulated on his win. WHEN Pat Baudille was announced as the winner of the True Local Business Award for Employee Excellence he was truly stunned. Cutlery slipped from the mechanic's usually dexterous grip as he quickly came to the realisation he had not only been nominated as a finalist for the award, but had actually won it. His employer and owner of Mortlake Service Centre, Greg Kotsakis, had kept the nomination a secret. ''It was excellent -- the biggest day of my life, really. Now there is the challenge to do it all again next year,'' Mr Baudille said. ''After 50 years in the industry, I still really enjoy taking care of the customers, especially older people who appreciate a little help.'' 2008 TRUE LOCAL BUSINESS AWARDS WINNERS FEATURE Readers' Choice Sandra Talese, Xanthe Burke, Katrina Cremona and Daniela Lacovoni at D'lush Hair with editor Robyn Ainsworth. HAVING received more nominations than any other business in the True Local Business Awards 2008, D'Lush Hair at Drummoyne has clinched the Readers' Choice award from a highly competitive field. Salon owner Sandra Talese was elated and said the staff were still very much on a high after their success. ''It's fantastic, and there's been a really good reaction among all our customers, who have been very happy and excited for us,'' Miss Talese said.''We are very honoured and it's a real achievement for the salon, which was started from scratch only two years ago, to win this award.'' Community Contribution John and Justine Perkins from Touched by Olivia Foundation. CHARITABLE foundation Touched by Olivia, which John and Justine Perkins set up to honour their daughter Olivia, who they lost to a rare illness at just eight months, has deservingly won this year's Community Contribution of the Year. ''We were thrilled to receive this award, which we were really accepting for our many dedicated volunteers, who give hours of their time to help organise events that have raised $1.2 million in the past 21 months,'' Mr Perkins said. ''It's very fitting that we've won the True Local Business Award because our charity work is truly local, supported by local businesses and the local community.''
