56 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, November 20, 2008 MB Inner-West Weekly Sport Tale of two centuries SHIREEN KHALIL Cricketer Justin O'Neil, of Strathfield, scored an incredible double century for his school. Picture: PHIL BLATCH ~PP217456 The opposition were amazed at my score and congratulated me' ' Cricketer JUSTIN O'NEILL JUSTIN O'Neil can be described as the best of the best after he scored an amazing 213 not out in a school cricket competition. The St Patrick's College, Strathfield, student broke the all- time school record and the highest individual score at Breen Oval, in the college grounds, in 68 years. Last Saturday week Justin scored an incredible 15 sixes (90 runs in 15 strokes) and 18 fours, contributing to his outstanding 213 not out in the Independent Schools Association competition. The opposition, Chevalier Col- lege, Bowral -- who were coming first in the competition -- were ''amazed'' by his achievement. ''They were amazed at my score and congratulated me,'' Justin said. He said he was honoured and privileged playing at Breen Oval and holding that score because''there have been so many good cricketers who have played on that ground''. Justin admitted his father, David, who is the former president of the Western Suburbs District Cricket Club and its current oper- ations manager, got him hooked on the sport. ''Dad always had it on TV and I had to love it. I, of course, thank him for that now,'' Justin said. The closest Justin has ever got to his mammoth score was a few weeks ago when he made 93 runs. Justin said prior to that he had been struggling to get a score above 20 for his school team. ''I was lacking in confidence and concentration,'' he said. ''I was a bit lazy but now I'm more developed. My confidence built up after I started getting large scores.'' Justin, who has been playing cricket for more than eight years, received the West's Ashfield Leagues Scholarship last year. ''It definitely helped me on the technical side of cricket and my technique.'' Adding to his list of achieve- ments include being a leading run- scorer in the under-12s represen- tatives cricket and playing for the Western Suburbs Green Shield under-16s. Justin hopes to one day play first-grade cricket for the Western Suburbs. 2029652K WK21 195 Parramatta Road, HOMEBUSH WEST p: 9746 6400 www.thewentworth.com.au MON - $2 Happy Hour 5 6pm - POKER Chance to win tickets to Star City TUES - $2 Happy Hour 5-8pm $5 Schnitzel 5-9pm WED - $2 Happy Hour 5-6pm - MAHJONG $500 in cash prize.
