GO TO innerwestweekly.com.au for all this and more Taking tough stand on alcohol violence THE Inner-West Weekly joins other Cumberland and Courier newspapers today in launching Just Think -- a community campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol-fuelled violence. If you are sick and tired of street thuggery and scared for your safety or the well being of loved ones when you venture out at night, it's time to speak out. On Sunday, the Federal Government launched a $20 million campaign of con- fronting advertisements outlining the dangers of binge drinking. Next week, the State Government intro- duces tough new measures at 50 of the worst venues for alcohol related violence which includes (any local venues) with enforced 2am lockouts and plastic cups instead of glass after midnight and a limit on how many drinks a customer can buy. Will this make a difference? We want to hear your thoughts, solutions and experi- ences. Will government measures change the mindset of young people who see binge drinking as just something you do each weekend? You can discuss that on a live blog with State Gaming Minister Kevin Greene on December 11. He will read your comments and answer them live. The Inner-West Weekly believes it needs a community effort to awaken binge drinkers to the consequences of their actions and plan over the coming weeks to highlight those consequences and your suggestions.
