Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : December 3rd 2008
MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, December 4, 2008 29 WELCOME to the inaugural Inner Vibe, which showcases Six of the Best lifestyle experiences in the Inner West. Here, we celebrate the things that set the Inner West apart from other regions of Sydney, and why we choose to live here. Today's edition features the best places to eat, shop, spend time with the family, relax, and celebrate Christmas. The featured Six of the Best are just that. They are not necess- ary the six best in their category, merely among the best of the best. Readers will have other ideas and we welcome suggestions. These may be used for future editions of Inner Vibe, which will be produced quarterly as a guide for your leisure. You can tell us what you think at innerwestweekly.com.au or by emailing editor@innerwest weekly.com.au or snail mail, 181 First Ave, Five Dock, 2046. Robyn Ainsworth Editor Six reasons to celebrate It's a sweet surrender ZILKA GROGAN Vincenzo Tamborrino, of Pasticceria Tamborrino, with his six favourite cakes. Picture: PHIL BLATCH ~PP222015 CAKES IF you haven't already started preparing the Christmas cake or panetone, or don't really like the stuff, there are alternatives. I must admit, I have fallen for the cupcake craze. It's not surprising really, with some of the best cupcake stores setting up shops locally. BabyCakes by Renee originally opened its doors in Summer Hill. The concept was such a success that a second store later opened in the city. Babycakes are bite-size cupcakes in a variety of gourmet and traditional flavours. A regular coffee and a baby cake at the Summer Hill store costs only $3. The Cupcake Factory in Drummoyne also serves classic, gourmet cupcakes. Prices start at $1 for mini cupcakes and increase with the level of indulgence. For the more traditional cake lover, Haberfield and Five Dock offer an authentic Italian flavour. Pasticceria Papa opened in Haberfield 13 years ago and has become a local institution for its sweet and savoury delights. Five Dock's Pasticceria Tamborrino offers a number of special cakes at Christmas time, including pangiallo with hazelnut, almonds , dried fruit and apricot jam. Del Mondo Pastries in Concord also have an extensive range of hand-made icing cakes. And for the more adventurous, gelato cakes are available from Duccio Gelato in Five Dock. 6 of the best gift ideas for Mum & Dad Maui Tote $595.00 Oroton Burwood and the kids Men's Narrabeen Polo $69.95 each Sportscraft Convex Conservatory Wall Clock $269.00 Blue Illusion Heaven Scent $35.00 Napoleon Davidoff Cool Water Travel Kit $22.00 Soul Pattinson They can have it all with a Westfield Gift Card.
