Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : December 3rd 2008
48 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, December 4, 2008 MB STREETVIEW Celebrating with care Ekin Dede Klaudia Johns Slyvia Levitt Megan Moulton Linda Carmody We asked people in Five Dock how much they would spend on Christmas shopping this year and surprisingly, a lot of them held back, saying it was just too hard. Ekin Dede, of Newington: I won't be spending that much on Christmas presents this year, maybe $100, only because I'm a student and would love to give to charity. I think it's a brilliant idea and if I had the money, I definitely would. But it's hard when you're a student. Klaudia Johns, of Five Dock: I probably will spend about $200 because I'm only buying for five kids and no adults. I can't afford it. I'm trying to cut my expenses, since I just bought a new business. But I give about $120 a month to charity and during Christmas, I give an extra $100. If you don't give, you don't get. Slyvia Levitt, of Russell Lea: I have 22 grandchildren, so we are going to be spending too much! They are aged from 23 years down to 5, with all mixed ages in between, and I'm guessing we will be spending $1500 on presents. We also donate to the Cancer Council each year. Megan Moulton, of Haberfield: We're not going to spend a lot because we are going to Fiji before Christmas. Instead of spending a heap of money on Christmas presents, we buy goats through Oxfam for families in Third World countries, which helps them a lot. And it's better than spending on toys that are likely to break. Linda Carmody, of Five Dock: I'm going to spend as little as I can only because people get so many things and we just don't have any space for it. I think it becomes meaningless and we don't need half the things we buy. I'm actually part of a mother's club and because our kids have everything they need, we put in about $20 each and donate it to World Vision. In the end, we send off about $300. I think we should start to care about what's around us. OPINION 2036817i iww wk23 Attention all carpet buyers!
