Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : December 17th 2008
MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, December 18, 2008 25 STREETVIEW Good, bad and ugly gifts Adrian Treahy John Barsoom Deirdre Meissl Chris Hawkshaw Deborah Gunthorpe Terrible Christmas presents -- we've all had them. Whether it was cheap perfume, an ''educational'' toy or a hideous knitted pom pom jumper, most of us can remember having to fake a smile and mutter our thanks. We went to Summer Hill to ask people about the worst -- and best -- gifts they've received. Adrian Treahy, of Summer Hill: My best present ever was a chopper bike I got when I was about 11. It was cool. My worst present was probably when I got nothing -- or the ones you have to buy yourself. John Barsoom, of Menai: My best present was the Playstation 2 I got last year. It was great except I don't have time to play it at the minute. As for the worst, nothing really sticks out except I got a bad shirt once. I can't remember who bought it for me. Deirdre Meissl, of Summer Hill: The worst one was when I was growing up. I was oneofsevenandIgotanIOUforagiftfor $4. I did get the gift though. Also when I was back in Ireland my sister got me a candlestick which she must have rushed in and bought from the Reject Shop or somewhere like that. How I kept a straight face, I don't know. Chris Hawkshaw, of Ashfield: For best gift, the one that sticks in my head from being a kid was something called a Johnny Seven One Man Army -- a gigantic gun that fired grenades and all sorts of things. I was eight. For worst, I got Faberge's Brut male cologne three years running. Deborah Gunthorpe, of Melbourne: I think the worst gift I got was a stapler when I was about 12. I got other things as well though. But I've still got it so I suppose it's been very useful. My best presents have been surprises. I don't like to tell people what to get me.
