MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Monday, December 22, 2008 5 NEWS www.innerwestweekly.com.au Take a dip this Christmas SHIREEN KHALIL Splash out at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. YOU'RE guaranteed to have a wet and wild time this summer with a whole lot of action at your local swimming pool. The beautifully designed Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre is welcoming a new fun Splasher's Water Playground for children. The playground is the first of its kind to be built indoors in the toddler pool, which features water slides, dumping buckets, interactive water cannons and larger-than-life aquatic animals. You can also enjoy the water slide, the rapid river ride and the blow-up maze, which always guarantees a laugh. There's a huge outdoor area for those who want to soak up the sun as well as a cafe for the peckish. Enfield Swimming Pool is home to a lot of locals and although it's not as big as the Aquatic Centre, it guarantees just as much fun. The 50m outdoor pool is perfect for groups of people who want to splash around and enjoy the sun, while the 25m indoor heated pool is great for the young ones who want to take a dip and try their luck with the challenging blow-up maze. The ever popular saltwater Cabarita Pool, within Cabarita Park, is undergoing renovations and is expected to open on Monday, December 29 (see break- out box). There will be a new deck, view- ing platform and seating, new change rooms, a new cafe with an outdoor deck, as well as a 50m pool and a repainted toddler pool. Ashfield Aquatic Centre has a range of services to cater for people of all ages with three outdoor heated pools, one indoor heated pool, swimming classes and aqua aerobics for those who want to keep fit and healthy. The pool's childcare centre is happy to offer a helping hand while you take a dip or participate in classes. Just under the Iron Cove Bridge is Drummoyne Swim Centre, which is a river-fed outdoor heated venue. It has an eight-lane 50m pool, suitable for water polo, leisure swimming and laps, and is perfect for those who appreciate Sydney Harbour views. And the Inner West's best-kept secret is a hidden little tidal pool at the bottom of Chambers Park, Chiswick, which also offers won- derful views of the Gladesville Bridge. It's been there for more than 60 years. The sandy-bottomed pool offers a relaxing environment for those who want a quiet escape. Pool open in time for summer CHECK out the new-look Cabarita Pool when it reopens on Monday. The Cabarita Park complex has just undergone a major upgrade. The eight-lane 50m pool has been retiled and the learn-to-swim and toddler pool are freshly painted. There are also new change rooms and community rooms. After a swim, enjoy a coffee and harbour views on the outdoor deck of the new cafe. Cabarita Swim Club meets every Saturday at 7.30am. New members are always welcome.
