The number of students selecting arts and sciences courses at the campus rose by 23 per cent since last year, while those who chose education courses as their first preference rose by more than 20 per cent. For all courses, first preferences rose by 16.1 per cent compared to last year. Volunteers lauded THE selflessness of of two Ashfield people who volunteered overseas has been recognised by Grayndler Federal Labor MP Anthony Albanese. Mr Albanese hosted a morning tea for Dr Enmoore Lin, who volunteered as a medical research officer in Papua New Guinea, and Dr Keith Carpenter, who provided economic advice to Cambodian professionals. Teens get FFIT FITNESS First runs the Fitness First Initiative for Teenagers (FFIT) holidays program, which allows high-school students to attend Fitness First during the school holidays free of charge. The program allows 14 to 18-year-olds access to the gym equipment and group fitness classes. Students from Year 12 who have left school can also use the program. Joeys hop into SES CANADA Bay State Emergency Service hosted a visit to its Regatta Rd, Five Dock headquarters from the 1st Yaralla Sea Scout Joeys recently. The 13 Joeys and parents were given a short talk on the role of the SES, a tour of the headquarters, and demonstrations of equipment. Lunch for the masses MORE than 3000 of Sydney's poor and needy headed to Ashfield's Exodus Foundation on December 25 for the city's biggest free Christmas lunch. The foundation served up more than 60 hams, 50 turkeys, 500kg of baked vegetables, 200 litres of gravy and 300 litres of custard. ''No one need be too poor or needy to go without a hot lunch and good company this Christmas Day,'' The Reverend Bill Crews, of the Exodus Foundation, said. Everyone who attended received a special Christmas gift and Santa was there to give presents to the kids. Hole lot of money CANADA Bay Council's Mayoral Golf Day has raised $24,000 for four local primary schools. The event at Massey Park Golf Club in November raised money for All Hallows in Five Dock, St Mark's Drummoyne, Mortlake Public School and Strathfield North Public School.
