Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : February 4th 2009
6 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, February 5, 2009 MB NEWS www.innerwestweekly.com.au Out to prove that he can dance SHIREEN KHALIL B.J. Rorke auditions for 'So You Think You Can Dance'. THIS talented young dancer doesn't think he can dance, he knows he can dance. B.J. Rorke, 19, of Lidcombe, who has danced alongside Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, is auditioning for one of the biggest dance shows in Australia, So You Think You Can Dance. Rorke's mother put him into dance lessons at the age of four to help bring him out of his shell, and lucky she did because this contemporary, jazz, hip- hop dancer makes it to the Top 100, a Dance insider revealed. His wealth of dance experience has not only helped him perform with singers such as Jessica Mauboy but has also sent him to South Korea in 2008, where he toured with Cats. The teenager, who is also a dance teacher and choreographer, auditioned for the TV dance show last year, but didn't make it as far as the top 40 due to an illness. But Rorke is back to prove to Australia he can dance. Natalie Bassingthwaighte hosts the show. The Top 20 will be announced next Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 10. The winner of the 12-week competition will receive a cash prize of $200,000. Judge slams challenge as Lim 'stunt' SHIREEN KHALIL CONTROVERSIAL Strathfield councillor Danny Lim wants a public debate with State Labor MP Virginia Judge, who he says isn't fulfilling her role. Cr Lim, who said he was Ms Judge's campaign manager in 1995 for two weeks, said it's about time she ''comes clean''. ''She is the Minister for Fair Trading, so she should be fair dinkum with us,'' Cr Lim said. ''It's about time the community knows what Judge is up to and what she's doing with her money.'' Cr Lim said the proposed debate wasn't for him but rather for the people of Strathfield, who he de- scribed as his family. ''It's not about me, it's not about Danny, it's about transparency, accountability and morality,'' he said. Cr Lim said Ms Judge hadn't fulfilled her commitment as Mem- ber for Strathfield. ''What has she done? What has she achieved? What's she doing with her political donation money? What single piece of infra- structure has Virginia delivered? Nothing,'' he said. Ms Judge, who said Cr Lim was never her campaign manager, fired back at his claims, listing over 42 infrastructure projects she had orchestrated, including a $6 million upgrade at Summer Hill railway station and a $6 million upgrade at Burwood Girls High School. ''Rather than wasting rate- payers' money standing on street corners with self-promoting, am- biguous billboards designed to spread fear and smear, and create division in the community, he should be doing what I did when working on council and as mayor -- finding new and innovative ways to improve residential amenity and act on them,'' Ms Judge said. Cr Lim wants the public debate to be held as soon as possible in Strathfield Town Hall. But Ms Judge refuses to take part, saying it's a publicity stunt. ''I'm getting on with the job I'm paid to do -- work hard for the people of the Strathfield elector- ate,'' Ms Judge said. ''Locals have told me they don't want talkfests in town halls that have nothing to do with local council that they have to pay for.'' 145222_AUB www.hnofis.com.au Product offers end 28/02/09 AUBURN 241ParramattaRoadPh:0287758000 Present this coupon to receive your second Poster Print at half price!
