New pokie law for venues LICENSED venues in Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury could be slapped with hefty fines if they do not stick to tough new laws aimed at reducing problem gambling across NSW. The new rules came in to force over the weekend banning easy access to credit and reducing the number of pokies in high risk areas. The statewide cap on pokies has also been reduced by 5000 while pubs and hotels are being encouraged to give up more machines, with a further reduction of 3000 by early 2014. Emerging bands invited BANDS from the Inner West are invited to audition on Saturday, February 14 for their chance to play at The Annandale for National Youth Week 2009. Emerge @ The Annandale will give new bands and artists the opportunity to be heard and the chance to battle for music industry prizes. Auditions will be held at Burwood Cultural and Community Centre from 1pm to 6.30pm and will be judged by a panel of young people from the Burwood Youth Advisory Group. Roads Minister Michael Daley said the roll-out of the flashing light technology was part of the government's commitment to improving safety in 400 school zones over four years.
