42 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, February 5, 2009 MB SPORT www.innerwestweekly.com.au Pair speeding to success Sinead Fogarty in action. From Back Page Boda, who attends Ryde Secondary College, has been the national age champion for eight consecutive years and was also placed sixth in the Senior Men's Division at the 2007 National Championships. He achieved three of his per- sonal bests in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m track races at the three-day Junior World Cham- pionships, and added to his achievements by coming 47/61. Fogarty, who has been skat- ing for seven years, has won several NSW and national titles, and is a team member on the NSW senior ladies relay team that currently holds the Australian relay record. The experienced skater is also a part of the Project 10 squad, a team of ice short track speed skaters trying out for Australia's first ladies short track Olympic team. Fogarty, who was very proud to be one of only four Aust- ralians selected to compete at the Junior World Champion- ships, came 39/45, achieving two of her personal bests. Both competitors were selec- ted by the national body of speed skating, AIR, to form part of the Elite Development Squad which aims to develop and prepare skaters who are expected to form part of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia squad for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Ace revamp for courts GRAB your racquet and check out the new-look Powells Creek Ten- nis Centre in Conway Ave, North Strathfield. The centre was reopened by Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas in December. Since Tennis NSW took over the lease of the community facility, all four courts have been resurfaced, new nets have been installed and the club house has been refur- bished. Tennis NSW's general manager David Eland is thrilled by how the centre has scrubbed up. For details phone head coach Andrew Hackett on 9743 4845. Trinity wins challenge TRINITY Grammar cricketers took on their namesakes during the last week of the school hol- idays. The first XI cricket team from Summer Hill travelled to Trinity Kew in Melbourne for the annual Henderson Shield Challenge. The event is played one year in Sydney then one in Melbourne. Trinity Grammar has held the shield for five years and the team hoped to make it six in a row. Over a three-day match at Bulleen in heatwave conditions, including one day with gale force winds, the Sydney boys with 306 and 7 declared for 145 beat Trinity Melbourne 170 and 272, outright.
