NSW 2150 39 42 31 Jeff regrets hitting mate Jeff Fenech Is it a storm in a teacup? www.innerwestweekly.com.au FIVE Dock boxing legend Jeff Fenech says he hopes his long- standing friendship with his training partner Peter Mitrevski can be patched up. The Marrickville Mauler said he was ''a little bit disap- pointed'' about the argument that he had with his best friend on Monday, which came to blows and drew blood. ''I really hope that we'll get together and we'll sort it out,'' he told 2DayFM radio on Tuesday. ''It's happened now, I really can't change anything, it really shouldn't have happened but it has and I can't do nothing about it. ''We've been having an argu- ment for the last couple of weeks and I went over there (to Mr Mitrevski's house at Banksia) and really tried to fix things up and then Peter got agitated and said a few things and all of a sudden Peter threw a couple of punches. ''I threw one and I tried to punch Peter, just in the chest to try and wind him or something, but it kind of rebounded off his chest and hit him in the mouth. ''You wouldn't believe it but when this stupid punch I threw landed and when I saw him blow up, I thought 'Don't tell me I've hurt my best mate' -- and that was my first concern. ''I looked and saw the blood was coming out of my hand. That made me feel a little better. ''I just hope that he's OK, that's all.'' Fenech said he needed stitches in hand. He said he hadn't spoken to Mr Mitrevski since the incident but his wife and his family had. Fenech said he hoped to smoothe things over with his mate. The pair have been friends for ''35 or 40 years''. ''I've travelled all over the world and without him my boxing career would have been so much more difficult and we're very close. He ran with me every morning and looks after my wife and family when I'm not here. We're very close.'' Fenech said Mr Mitrevski rang the police. ''I'm pretty disappointed, yeah. I mean, Peter could chop my arm off and I wouldn't ring the police,'' Fenech said. He was interviewed by police and released without charge.
