MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, March 19, 2009 7 NEWS www.innerwestweekly.com.au Gelato scoops 12 medals Stefano Vicentini (left) and Sam Bruno of Sublime Gelato with french vanilla gelato, and (inset) show judging. Main picture: JOHN APPLEYARD ~PP255306 SHIREEN KHALIL IT'S official -- Sublime Gelato makes the best Pistachio gelato in NSW. When South Strathfield resident Stefano Vicentini decided to enter his gelato business in the 2009 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show, he didn't imagine walking away with 12 gold and silver medals, including the cham- pion gelato flavour, from the 122 gelato entrants. ''It is overwhelming because it means we must be doing some- thing right by the public and for the judges to award us acknowl- edges the hard work that goes on behind the scenes,'' he said. Out of the 14 products they entered, Sublime Gelato cleaned up three gold medals -- for their pistachio di bronte, hazelnut and lemon meringue gelatos -- and a further eight silver medals for flavours including coconut, honey roasted macadamia and green tea. To top it off, the pistachio flavor scooped the champion flavour. But this isn't the first time Sublime Gelato has been crowned with the award. Last year their Belgian chocolate stole the title. Mr Vicentini said it's all be- cause of their ingredients. ''We use 100 per cent pure ingredients and we are always in search of new and better products and we don't cut corners, we do it the traditional way,'' he said. Sublime Gelato which was es- tablished in 2001, distributes to more than 160 business across Sydney and stocks 50 different types of gelato, all made from scratch. ''We are constantly on the lookout for new ways of improv- ing our range of gelato and the options are endless because you can really create any flavour you like, it's just involves a fair bit of trial and error until we get it to the point we need it at,'' he said. Each day, Sublime Gelato pro- duces a different flavour and while the choices are endless, the most requested gelatos are choc- olate, cookies and cream, lemon, mango and green tea. Sublime Gelato will be selling medal-winning products in the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome at this year's Royal Easter Show. Visit www.sublime gelato.com.au or call 9637 5606. Pleas for a solution to DFO traffic HOMEBUSH'S Direct Factory Outlet may be in line to get more parking and traffic solutions. At a recent Strathfield Council meeting, independent councillor Danny Lim put forward a motion to resolve issues facing DFO. The council unanimously voted to authorise the general manager to open a dialogue with the direct factory outlet to address parking and traffic problems in and around the site. The motion also encourages DFO to create additional parking as well as faster access into the site. Strathfield Mayor Keith Kwon, who commended Cr Lim on his motion, said residents and com- muters had been complaining about parking and traffic conges- tion in and around DFO for some time. ''More and more residents and commuters are starting to contact council about problems surround- ing DFO,'' Cr Kwon said. ''On Saturdays and when the football season starts it gets pretty crowded and the council needs to come up with a long-term solution but without the participation of DFO we are not going to go anywhere,'' he said. Cr Kwon said the council was committed to devising a long-term plan for parking and traffic flow in and around the area. EASTER CELEBRATIONS . . .
