Couple hurt as car hits shop doors SHIREEN KHALIL Video Online Watch it now at www.innerwestweekly.com.au TWO people had to be taken to hospital after their car smashed into the Victoria St entrance of Westfield Burwood last Thursday night. Police are investigating how a 69-year-old male motorist came to drive his 2005 model Toyota Camry through the glass doors of the Burwood shopping centre about 7.30pm. A witness whose shop faced the accident scene told the Inner-West Weekly that the driver was at- tempting a U-turn in Victoria St East when the car mounted the footpath and crashed through three glass doors. ''First I heard a really loud bang and I saw the car coming through the doors sideways, so all I could see was the car's back wheel,'' witness Belinda Palmer said. ''But it must have been coming the wrong way due to the way it was facing. ''After it smashed there was a moment of silence and all these people rushed to the scene.'' The 70-year-old woman travel- ling in the front passenger seat suffered a broken arm, while the driver escaped with an injured neck. The Frenchs Forest couple were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hos- pital for treatment. Although it was late night shop- ping at Westfield, no one else was hurt. Westfield duty manager Bob Dunger praised the security guards' response. ''There was a very loud rumble, like a train rumbling through the station but our guys responded very quickly and very well,'' Mr Dunger said. It took about an hour to remove the vehicle from the building as theroofofthecarhadtobecutto free the passengers. Traffic was disrupted for several hours. The car was towed away for mechanical examination. Police say no charges have been laid but investigations are con- tinuing. 30% - 70% OFF RRP STOREWIDE* *Excludes samples *Reductions off recommended retail price LIDCOMBE Factor y Outlet adidas Factor y Outlet 55-59 Parramatta Road Lidcombe 2141 Phone 974 8 0577 MASSIVE SAVINGS!!! • Built In Wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors • Showers Screens, frameless, semi frameless or fully framed • Two sliding safety mirrored doors • Four Drawers in metal runners with safety stop • Double hanging space and 1 single hanging space • Coloured or timber look doors available if preferred (additional cost) $599 Prices Start From including GST Wardrobes Pty Ltd SHOWROOM OPEN 7 DAYS Monday - Friday 8am-4.30pm Saturday 8am-1pm Sunday 10am-1pm Unit 14, 39-41 Marigold St, REVESBY 12 year warranty Free measure & quote Fully installed at factory Prices Up to 2.4m wide wall to wall Up to 2.7m ceiling high 9792 2233 All major credit cards available "Won't be Beaten on Quality, Price & Services" special offer for a limited time only WE NOW DO KITCHENS!
