14 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, April 9, 2009 MB NEWS It's flavours first Joe Di Maria and Alfredo La Cava at Pure Gelato. Picture: NICK BLOUKOS ~P0238003 SHIREEN KHALIL CROYDON Park's Pure Gelato has won the most successful gelato exhibitor award for the 10th year running at the 2009 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show. When owners Joe Di Maria and Alfredo La Cava established Pure Gelato in 1996, they didn't think they would be running one of the most successful gelato businesses in NSW. ''We are overwhelmed with the results we got this year and winning means a lot to our team and staff and our customers,'' Mr La Cava said. Mr La Cava said their success is all about their love for gelato. ''Joe and I are definitely passionate about what we do and we use the finest ingredients to create our products,'' he said. ''It just takes time and there needs to be a need for that flavour.'' When Pure Gelato opened, they started off with 25 different flavours. Thir- teen years later, the owners have created a gelato won- derland producing 149 colourful flavours. As a result of their suc- cess they are giving the local community, young and old, the opportunity to create the 150th flavour. ''It's all about getting the public involved and sharing our 150th milestone,'' Mr La Cava said. ''The competition is going to be tough -- we have already had over 50 entries, with some people request- ing Maltesers, tropical fruit, creme toffee and popcorn.''
