Twelve-year-old Roy Elder, from Ashfield, sent in a photo- graph of his great-grandfather Capt Laurence Edgar Burt, who fought at Gallipoli. His brave great-grandad (pic- tured) had to have his right leg amputated below the knee after he was shot in France, just before the Armistice. For his efforts he was awarded a 1914-15 Star, a British War Medal and a Victory Medal. The proud Ashfield schoolboy also sent a photograph of his father Ian Elder, of the Royal Australian Medical Corps, when he was serving on Lon Song Island, Vietnam, in 1970. Dr Elder was awarded the Army Combat Badge, the Vietnam Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Returned From Active Service Medal and an Australian Defence Medal. If you want to give your war heroes the recognition they de- serve for defending our great nation, send us a picture of your relative who served Australia, and we'll include them in our wall. To do so, simply log in to www. innerwestweekly. com.au and follow the links to submit your photo. Alternatively, send a copy to Anzac Day photos to PO Box 6062, Parramatta Business Centre, NSW 2150. Only send copies please, as we are unable to return original photographs. When you send us the photo, be sure to include some infor- mation about your hero. Tell us their name, where and when they fought and, if you know, which medals they received. The popularity of dawn stand- tos is increasing, and we'll be bringing you all the times and venues in our special Anzac Day edition next week. Check at www. innerwestweekly. com.au to see reg- ular updates to our heroes gallery, and to look at our special medals chart, which identifies and ex- plains all Aust- ralian war medals.
