10 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, May 7, 2009 MB NEWS Story-telling with Alex Mills was central to the art show (above) while Alissa and Jason Webster and children Harvey and Alexander look at creative illustrations (below). Showcase of children's talent THE Infants' Home Child & Family Services celebrated its 135th birthday at the annual art show last Saturday. The Art of Literacy is central to the teaching and curriculum at the Ashfield centre. Through this exciting and innovative concept, children are learning to be critical, literate and imaginative learners and thinkers. The Infants' Home staff and children have explored books, poems and rhymes, fairytales, music, recipes and multi- lingual scripts, and used 3D sculptures to illustrate their creative writings. The children's impressive works of art were showcased. Their creative works were magnificent and captivated the families and the community, making the exhibition a huge success. council chambers: 65 Homebush Rd, Strathfield NSW 2135 P: 9748 9999 F: 9764 1034 postal address: PO Box 120, Strathfield NSW 2135 business hours: 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday STRATHFIELD COUNCIL WHAT'S ON Charity Soccer Match Friday 8 May FREE Bark Huts Belfield 4pm All proceeds will be donated to the Strathfield SES E: firstname.lastname@example.org W: www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au 2127351i iww w45 First Tuesday of the Month -- Ordinary Council at 7pm, Council Chambers 65 Homebush Road Strathfield Second Tuesday of the Month -- Planning Committee at 6pm Iron Bark meeting room Strathfield Library and Information Centre, 65-67 Rochester Street Homebush Third Tuesday of the Month -- Committee meeting as required • Environmental Committee • Social Committee • Economic Committee Business papers for Council and Committee meetings are available from Council's Customer Service Centre, libraries and website www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au from the Saturday prior to each meeting. Mayor's Message I'm pleased to announce that the Strathfield Economic Development Plan, a document which provides the blueprint of how Council will play an active role in the local economy, will go on public exhibition next Tuesday. One of the key directions identified in Strathfield Vision 2020 has been the need for Council to provide greater emphasis on community building and diversity. That is why it is one of Council's priorities to create and retain business activity as this leads to overall community benefit. This plan, which is the first of its kind in the Inner West, is the culmination of detailed analysis of local economic data and consultation with key stakeholders. The plan is on public exhibition for community comment until June 12, and is available on Council's website, Customer Service Centre and Strathfield Library.
