Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : June 3rd 2009
10 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 4, 2009 MB NEWS Pup plays to fans Homebush Boys High School student Bavi Indrakumar meets Test cricketer Michael Clarke. IT was no ordinary day for Homebush Boy's High School student Bavi Indrakumar who was presented with an unforgettable award from Australian Test cricket vice-captain Michael Clarke. Clarke visited the school, on behalf of his sponsor Slazenger, to present a signed cricket bat to Year 8 student Bavi. Bavi won the bat in a Slazenger pro- motion organised by Kevin Pillay. ''As soon as he walked into my school I was star-struck. I asked him about how his career was and how he started playing cricket and he said he started playing for the Western Suburbs like me and then grew up to play for Australia,'' Bavi, 13, said. The boy, who has been playing cricket since year 3, said it was a great feeling being awarded by Michael Clarke and hopes to play for Australia one day too. School captains Thomas Stefoulis, Tyson Parcell and Kabilan Bascaran interviewed Clarke about his cricketing career and public profile. Clarke enthralled the assembly with his answers which traced the highs of a 155-run debut to the low of being dropped from the Test team. He emphasised the hard work and disci- pline necessary to win back his position and the vice-captaincy of the team. Clarke said he was looking forward to joining former Homebush Boy's student Phillip Hughes on the Ashes tour. council chambers: 65 Homebush Rd, Strathfield NSW 2135 P: 9748 9999 F: 9764 1034 postal address: PO Box 120, Strathfield NSW 2135 business hours: 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday STRATHFIELD COUNCIL WHAT'S ON Line Dancing for Seniors Every Wednesday until 8 July 1.30-3pm FREE Strathfield Town Hall E: firstname.lastname@example.org W: www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au 2127351i iww w49 First Tuesday of the Month -- Ordinary Council at 7pm, Council Chambers 65 Homebush Road Strathfield Second Tuesday of the Month -- Planning Committee at 6pm Iron Bark meeting room Strathfield Library and Information Centre 65-67 Rochester Street Homebush Third Tuesday of the Month -- As required • Environmental Committee • Social Committee • Economic Committee Business papers for Council and Committee meetings are available from Council's Customer Service Centre, libraries and website www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au from the Saturday prior to each meeting.
