6 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 18, 2009 MB R NEWS www.innerwestweekly.com.au Farlow tipped for contest FIONA BRADY Scott Farlow protests alongside Liberal leader Barry O'Farrell near Iron Cove Bridge recently. Drummoyne State Labor MP Angela D'Amore FORMER Strathfield mayor Scott Farlow is staying tight-lipped over whether he intends to run against Angela D'Amore for the seat of Drummoyne at the next state elections. Speculation on the online news site Vex News that Mr Farlow intended to run in Drummoyne created a string of positive and negative comments from Liberals. The 25-year-old Young Liberals president has refused to rule it out, only saying ''I think the next election is quite a bit away''. The speculation was fuelled by Farlow's recent move from Strathfield to set up home in Drummoyne after his marriage to Penny George Farlow, a Liberal Party campaign officer. But Mr Farlow said Drummoyne was a midway point for the couple and he had family ties to the area. ''I have been in and out of that area for most of my life,'' he said. Mr Farlow, who stood down from Strathfield Council at the last election, was the youngest mayor in Strathfield's history. ''I don't necessarily think that youth is an impediment (to run- ning for State Parliament),'' he said. ''Not necessarily for me, but for for any young person running.'' Recently, he has been front and centre of a Young Liberals cam- paign against the second Iron Cove Bridge. He accused Ms D'Amore of hav- ing ''sat back and said absolutely nothing'' about the project despite the anger in the community. ''That is the sort of thing the people of the electorate are not going to forget about in 2011,'' he said. But Ms D'Amore said the project was all about improving public transport and accused the Lib- erals of being out of touch with the needs of the area. She refused to comment on any potential rivals but said she would not be taking anything for granted come election time. ''I don't get distracted by their (Liberals) politics or antics, I just focus on getting results for my community,'' she said. ''I will be fighting for every single vote. ''I think the next election will be a tough one, as are all elections.'' Man exposes himself to young girls POLICE are appealing for infor- mation after a man exposed him- self to two young girls at Haberfield on Saturday. The children, aged 10 and 11, were riding their scooters along a bike track on the eastern side of Hawthorne Canal about 4.30pm when they were stopped by a man on a bicycle. The man, aged in his 30s ex- posed himself to the children before committing an act of in- decency in front of them. The girls immediately rode away and alerted their parents, who contacted police. Neither of the girls was injured in the incident. The man has been described as being of white/European appear- ance, 175cm tall with a muscular build and short blond hair. He was wearing a white, short- sleeved silk-type shirt with blue vertical stripes and black shorts. Police are reminding parents to emphasise the Safe People, Safe Places messages with their chil- dren. These include: Talking to their children about where they should go for help if something happens, including a shop or supermarket, service station, police station or school. Reinforce that under no circum- stances should they leave a safe place or get into a car with a person they do not know. Witnesses should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
