Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : June 17th 2009
10 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 18, 2009 MB City comes to life Artist Peter Orum at his exhibition in Summer Hill. Picture: PHIL BLATCH ~PP287651 A SELF-CONFESSED computer geek- turned-artist has a new exhibition opening at the Red Door Gallery, Summer Hill tonight. Peter Orum an expert web developer, earned his master of arts in painting from the College of Fine Arts in 2008. His first exhibition Colours of City Life includes paintings of Sydney icons such as the monorail, Darling Harbour and the old Gowings building. ''They are a series of semi-abstract urban landscapes, mainly from Sydney, with a focus on texture and colour, giving a feel for life in the city,'' Orum said. Orum who still works as a web developer part-time has found an innovative way to combine his twin passions. In September last year, the Ryde man founded www.paintingsilove.com -- an art- ists' community website which now has more than 40,000 artworks online. Artists from around the world can upload their paintings, drawings or prints for free and get feedback through votes and com- ments. ''I'm trying to be the Flicker of paintings,'' Orum said. ''It's really geared at helping artists improve their artwork.'' Meet the artist at the exhibition's opening tonight from 6pm to 8pm. The exhibition is also open on Fridays to Sundays from 10.30am to 4pm until July 4. Red Door Gallery is at 24 Morris St, Summer Hill.
