Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : June 17th 2009
20 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 18, 2009 MB STREETVIEW New bridge not answer Maury Ball Vera Yakamenko Chris Belyea Sandra Rachehe Loreto Larach With the State Government's $156 million going into the upgrade of Victoria Rd and the duplication of the Iron Cove Bridge, we've asked the local people if building a second bridge is in the best interest of the community. Maury Ball, of Henley: I think the bridge is a complete waste of money. The problem is the parking up at Drummoyne. They have got to stop people parking on the side of the road to allow a straight through run. I can't believe the State Government is doing this when the people just don't want the bridge. Everyone knows that it's not going to improve the situation. I think the government is doing a terrible job. Vera Yakamenko, of Glebe: I come here to do the (bay) walk. I think taking away the parks is a mistake. There's nothing they can do to prove they should take the parks away. Chris Belyea, of Wahroonga: The Iron Cove Bridge is part of Sydney's essence, so it should be left alone. I can't see the new bridge solving anything. You're really only diverting the traffic that is still going to clog up the Anzac Bridge. Sandra Rachehe, of Five Dock: The second bridge is not the best idea. I think extending the light rail is a far better alternative. Loreto Larach, of Russell Lea: The government should think of different ways of reducing traffic bottlenecks. Another bus lane would be a smarter thing to do. I'm not sure if the Labor members of Parliament would lose their seats if they haven't lost them yet.
