MB INNER WEST COURIER, Thursday, July 16, 2009 15 www.innerwestcourier.com.au NEWS Orlando tickles another boy during interactive reading with author Marcia Morales. Picture: SIMON CHILLINGWORTH Exploring sensations See more pictures at www.innerwestcourier.com.au A CARDBOARD box might seem brown and boring to most adults, but for many kids it's a passport to another world. This difference in perception prompted children's writer Marcia Morales to write What can I see? Chloe and Jack's adventure under the sea. Morales's story is about two kids who discover an underwater world in a card- board box they have found in the garden. ''The cardboard box is a basic, fundamen- tal toy that all children can relate to,'' she said. She wrote the story with her four-year-old daughter Chloe, who features as a character in the book. ''I've been writing stories with my daugh- ter since she was two,'' Morales said. It is the first in a series of five educational books aimed at 2-6 year olds which explore sight, smell, sound, touch and taste. ''The goal is to fully engage the children,'' she said. ''We are trying to encourage self- confidence and to build self-worth.'' Morales, who works as a consultant in corporate education, said each story will have a moral at the back of the book with the first one being: ''No matter what age you are, no matter what colour or size, it's never too late to start exploring.'' Morales will read her new book on Saturday, July 25, at Angus & Robertson in Burwood Westfield.
