8 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 26, 2008 1 2 3 4 5 CRIME STOPPERS 1800 333 000 on the beat Teenager robbed at knifepoint 6 7 1 A 16-YEAR-OLD male from Ashfield was robbed about 8.30pm on Tuesday, June 17. After leaving Ashfield swimming pool, the teen was verbally challenged by an unknown man. The victim and his friend walked away towards their home when the same man, armed with a knife, confronted them at the Alt St railway tunnel. He stole their mobile phones. The robber is described as European, 180cm tall, of a thin build. He was wearing a light-coloured hooded jumper and black track pants. Anyone with information should phone Ashfield police on 9797 4099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. 2 A DRIVER was allegedly travelling at 30km/h over the 60km/h speed limit on Georges River Rd, Croydon Park, at 11pm on Friday, June 6. The 24-year-old driver from Croydon Park was stopped and given a breath test. He was charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h and low-range drink-driving. 3 PROPERTY has been stolen from a bedside table and from behind doors while the occupants of a house in Loftus St, Ashfield, were asleep. The offence occurred between 2.30am and 6am on Friday, June 20, after the thief entered through a locked security screen door. The thief then used a set of keys to steal a black Mazda sedan from the victim's garage. If anyone has information or witnessed the incident phone Ashfield police on 9797 4099. 4 A 33-YEAR-OLD man was charged with stealing from a car in Ashfield about 11.20pm on Friday, June 20. The man was seen walking down Millar Ave from Liverpool Rd, using a torch to look into vehicles parked out on the street. Police said he was seen smashing the window of a Ford Falcon and removing property. The man was confronted by a witness who then called police. Police said the man fled the scene, jumping fences into residential houses. Police conducted a search and found the man, who was charged with possessing a prohibited drug, trespassing and larceny. 5 FOUR cars parked in Fifth St, Ashbury, were broken into between 8am on Saturday, June 21, and 12.15am on Sunday, June 22. A small amount of property was stolen from each vehicle. If anyone has information or witnessed these offences phone Ashfield police on 9797 4099. 6 The driver's side window of a 2007 Ford Focus parked in Fleet St, Sum- mer Hill, was smashed between 5.30pm on Friday, June 20, and 1am on Saturday, June 21. A GPS unit left inside the car was stolen. If anyone has information phone Ashfield police on 9797 4099. 7 A 16-YEAR-OLD male has been charged in relation to two separate armed robberies at Auburn and Granville. Police said about 8.35am on Thursday, June 19, a 16-year-old Auburn youth and an unknown male pushed an employee into a bank on Auburn Rd, Auburn, just as he was opening the glass doors. The man was allegedly assaulted and instructed to open the safe and disarm the alarms. A 38-year-old woman employee arrived at work and, together with her colleague, fled across Auburn Rd, leaving the pair in the bank. Police said witnesses reported seeing the pair leave the bank and run into Mary St, where they got into a stolen red Toyota Camry sedan. Police located the abandoned car in Cornwall St, Auburn, about 9.45am. Shortly afterwards, the Auburn youth was arrested by Flemington detectives in Norman St, Auburn. Police then executed a search warrant at a Norman St residence. The youth has been charged with aggra- vated assault with intent to rob and with armed robbery in relation to a separate robbery at a shop in South St, Granville, on February 20, 2008.
