LAUREN MURADA THE fight between good and evil will take to the stage in this year's Rock Eisteddfod Chal- lenge when Burwood PCYC competes for a place in the grand final. With the heat less than a month away, organiser Tom Stanton said the group of 28 performers and 14 backstage crew had overcome many ob- stacles to make it this far. ''Our first rehearsal started with two people and we've built it from there,'' he said. ''We went to shopping centres and high schools trying to re- cruit people.'' The group of 12 to 18-year-olds has also had to overcome the lack of a support group, with only three parents volunteering to help. ''If we get the show on stage then that will be like winning,'' the 18-year-old said. The performance is about what's in the mind that pro- vokes people to make their decisions, with star Kane Johnson torn between his good side and his evil side. The eisteddfod is a 100 per cent alcohol, drug and smoke- free event. Mr Stanton said young people learned that you could have fun without drugs. This is the first Rock Eisteddfod that he and co- organiser Jenna Shaheen have produced. He said it was something they have always wanted to do. ''It's more than the show; it's about making friends and the memories,'' he said.
