38 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, June 26, 2008 STREETVIEW Grog guideline too harsh Kay Burger Nick Lee Lynne Bentley Edwina Smith Patrick O'Connor There are rumours the National Health and Medical Research Council will release a new draft report about binge drinking that will set the upper limit to four mid-sized drinks. We asked people in Strathfield if they thought having four drinks in one sitting should be considered a binge. Kay Burger, of Ashfield: I don't think it should be because binge drinking is a problem young people have. It's not the drinking that's the problem, it's the problems they have that cause the drinking. Nick Lee, of Homebush Bay: I don't think so because it's too little an amount to classify as binge drinking. Lynne Bentley, of Earlwood: I thought binge drinking was more when people go out and when you drink and drink, not three to four drinks. It wouldn't hurt changing the guidelines but I couldn't see people abiding by it. Edwina Smith, of Ireland: I thought it was more about going out and getting drunk, but if you were doing that every night then you'd have a problem. Patrick O'Connor, of Ireland: You couldn't share a bottle of wine with a friend -- I think four glasses of wine wouldn't be considered binge drinking.
