BURWOOD Council are giv- ing people a chance to con- tribute to the environment while enjoying a great day out. The council is holding a tree-planting day with the aim of educating and inspir- ing Australians to care for the environment. The event is part of National Tree Day, Aust- ralia's biggest community tree-planting initiative, Mayor John Faker said. ''Community events like the Tree-Planting Day help to increase awareness of the environmental benefits of healthy plant and tree com- munities,'' he said. ''It also gives residents the opportunity to get in- volved and enjoy a 'hands- on' experience; I'm encour- aging all families to come along and enjoy a great community day out.'' By holding a tree-planting day, Burwood Council is contributing to the number of native plants propagated in the local area. Participants are advised to wear long sleeves, long pants, hats and sunscreen. Tools, gloves and planting equipment are provided and there be a tasty barbecue. The event will be held at Henley Park, Enfield, on Sunday, July 27.
