14 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, July 10, 2008 NEWS Don't fall into LAUREN MURADA STUDY TIPS FOR HSC STUDENTS QUIET: Make sure you have a quiet, well-lit study area that is away from distractions so you can concentrate PLAN: Make a study timetable which includes relaxation, exercise and study time to give you some direction and help you focus on what to study each week or day JUST DO IT: Avoid procrastination. Try to stay away from the computer so you don't spend study time checking emails or on social networking sites. It may also be helpful to turn off your phone NOTES: Write down pieces of infor- mation you need to remember, such as equations or quotes, and stick them all around your house REST: Taking regular breaks is import- ant to give your mind a break. Getting up and spending 10 minutes away from the desk every hour will help you concentrate more when you return ASK: Don't be afraid to ask your teacher if you're having trouble or don't understand something. They're there to help you. AS Year 12 students start going into panic mode preparing for their trial HSC exams, the Board of Studies has launched a new website which is a one-stop study shop for students. The website provides a personalised service for Year 12 students which lets them know when their exams are, view their to- do list, and links to past papers. The service has been so popular among students that it has gone straight to the top 40 state government sites and had 19,000 visitors since the launch on June 4. Ashfield's Bethlehem College student Emily Rahme won a $50 voucher for using the website, which has been helping her prepare for her exams. Ms Rahme was selected at random for being one of the first 5000 students to use the site and was rewarded with a $50 voucher from the University Co-op Bookshop. ''The website applies to me because it's personalised and relevant to my subjects, where as the general Board of Studies site applied to everyone,'' the Strathfield resi- dent said. Fellow Year 12 students Liliana Soares and Xuan Nguyen are also feeling the stress as their final assessments and trial exams coming up. ''With our trials in a month it's very stressful and we're starting to reach our peak,'' Ms Soares said. Ms Nguyen said she had been preparing for exams by practising past papers which she found on the website. While the girls are studying hard, they all agree that some down time is needed to relax. ''Maintaining a balance is vital to your sanity so I keep one day to myself,'' Ms Rahme said. ''Getting out of your house and out of your study zone is helpful.''
