This week's Inner West Weekly Father of the Year nominee has taken to singing to his baby boy, Oliver. Whether it's children's songs or Paul McCartney, Mr Macalister has often had to ask his wife, Kerrie, to check the lyrics on the Internet ''so he doesn't teach Oli the wrong words'', Mrs Macalister said. And when he's not being a doting Dad, Mr Macalister, who works as a plumber, is also an avid cyclist. As club secretary with Parra- matta Cycling Club, Mr Macalister has been a mentor to a younger generation of cyclists. In her nomination, Mrs Macalister said her husband was always there for her and baby Oliver. ''Although these things don't have the glitz of being a celebrity Dad, they are the everyday things which Dave never fails to do,'' she said.
