Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : July 30 2008
4 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, July 31, 2008 NEWS www.innerwestweekly.com.au Brave or biased? Flood of feedback Our Page 1 report last week on the Pongu Tamil event in Mason Park, Homebush. THIS is to say my heartfelt thank you, as a Sri Lankan-born Aust- ralian, for your excellent article in your newspaper this week about pro-LTTE activities perpetrated by Tamil Diaspora. Unsuspecting and sympathetic Australians have been hood- winked by those pro-LTTE front organisations for too long. At last the tide is turning against the terrorist sympath- isers. Please keep up your investi- gations further to expose fundrais- ing activities carried out by Tamil Diaspora in support of one of the most ruthless terrorist outfits in the world. Saliya, Pennant Hills I PROUDLY want to claim that I did attend the Pongu Tamil event. The event reaffirmed the Tamil Australians living in Sydney sup- ported the Tamils' freedom struggle. Your article is riddled with false claims and I am as- tounded that the Inner-West Weekly has published a front-page article without publishing the re- porter's name! Furthermore, the article is based on hearsay and it seems you have not even sent your own reporter to cover the event. Surely this is bad journalism and a cheap attempt at publishing a very romanticised story! Aran, Auburn I AM writing to offer my support and thank you for publishing the article. It was a fabulous piece of investigative journalism which has exposed the dangers of the indoctrination of infants and chil- dren to terrorism and violence by the ruthless terrorist organis- ation. It is a good wake-up call for all Australians. Please keep up your good work. Congratulations! Udaya De Silva STILL Australia is considered as a country against ''global terror- ism''? As a peace-loving Aust- ralian I commend the editor for your braveness and honesty by exposing the LTTE Tamil terror- ists in your article. Inner-West Weekly has guts to expose the LTTE terrorists. I am certain you have set an example for the Australian media for a long time to come. You may get thousands of emails and phone calls from LTTE supporters (majority of whom mi- grated to Australia for economic reasons and to collect money for terrorists) to protest against you. But please remember there are thousands more Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims and Aust- ralians who silently commend your work for the peace in Sri Lanka and in Australia. T.Y. I AM very disappointed with the headline Tiger territory. Please make more investi- gations before editing such an article. At Strathfield and the surrounding area there are lots of Tamils living and your article gives a bad opinion about Tamils to other community members. We are a very quiet community living in Australia without caus- ing any trouble to other communi- ties. The article you printed in the paper damaged our image. In your article you have given lot of priority to a single person's comments, rather than the 2000 who participated on that day. Ask the neighbours, did we cause any trouble other than we parked our cars around? We showed our problem to fel- low Australians. Australia is a democratic country and we used this opportunity. Nothing wrong with that. This is a simple example your article is very biased. We know from history that the Sri Lankan government and their agents are very smart to approach media and key people (to influence them). If you are a good journalist you have to investigate the reason for the meeting and put both sides of the story. We have suffered from Sri Lankan genocide for the last 50 years and only in the last 30 years Tamils started to fight (back with arms). I was refused univer- sity admission because I am a Tamil, and Tamils need more marks compared with a Sinhalese to enter university. This is the simple reason lots of students/youngsters choose to take arms. I am lucky I had an opportunity to come to Australia and have a peaceful life. What is the answer for the rest of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka? Do you know how many schools, churches, houses, hospitals have been bombed by the Sri Lankan government? You know how many Tamils went missing from Colombo in the past two years? Kandiah, Homebush West I AM a resident who lives in Sydney and I proudly want to claim that I did attend the Pongu Tamil event. The event reaffirmed the Tamil Australians living in Sydney supported the Tamils' freedom struggle. What is absurd is that you claim ''the man, who took the main photograph, said he had to chant with the supporters so that he could go unnoticed''. Well, if the 2000 others were chanting the supportive slogans, surely good journalism would mean at least one of those ''true supporters of terrorism'' would have had to be interviewed too! The flag raised along with Aust- ralian was not that of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) but rather the national flag of Tamil Eelam -- a flag that is symbolic and bestowed with Tamil pride. I am offended that you cannot get your facts right before publishing such infor- mation. I challenge your paper to inves- tigate the genocides taking place in Sri Lanka and report with facts. If you are not having facts, please look at the UN and Amnesty information or interview some Tamils or even non-Tamils. P. Deva, Sydney I WANT to thank you for exposing the shameless Tamil Tiger activi- ties in Sydney supporting a ruth- less terrorist group. As a parent, I am appalled to see the abuse of children by them, more than anything. In Sri Lanka they abuse the poor Tamil chil- dren by forceful conscription into their terrorist army (often sacri- ficed as suicide bombers) and they massacre Sinhalese and Muslim children when they attack non- Tamil villages. Overseas, including Australia, they abuse Tamil children by brainwashing them and making them racists who worship suicide bombers. Look at the Pongu festi- val -- they use children to hail a murderous terrorist leader re- sponsible for the death of thou- sands of innocent people. Even if they had a just cause, which they don't, nothing justifies terrorism. Well done!
