INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, August 14, 2008 23 Celebrating heart of our community NOMINATIONS for the 2008 True Local Business Awards have now closed. The awards are presented by Cumberland Newspapers, publishers of the Inner-West Weekly. They recognise and reward outstanding local business achievements and acknowl- edge the commitment of sponsors to busi- ness and the community in the Inner West. Vodafone Australia is proud to be the main sponsor of the awards. Vodafone NSW general manager Frances Martin said small businesses were at the heart of the community and Vodafone was pleased to be in- volved in a program that rec- ognised and cel- ebrated their achievements. Offering a range of mobile business solutions, with simple and straightforward payment op- tions, she said Vodafone understands the communications needs of Australia's small businesses. ''From exclusive mobile devices to a high- speed mobile broadband network and capped plans providing outstanding value for money, Vodafone products and services are an accessible, cost-effective solution for small businesses that want to mobilise their workforce and make the most of their time,'' Ms Martin said. Other corporate sponsors are truelocal.com.au, 2GB, CPA, MYOB and the Department of State and Regional Develop- ment. Local sponsors are Rhodes Shopping Centre, Wests Ashfield, Canada Bay Coun- cil and Strathfield Council. NEWS Support for those with dementia A SUPPORT program for people suffering from Alzheimer's is being launched in Strathfield next week. The Living with Memory Loss program, to be held at Strathfield Main Library, aims to improve the quality of life of people living with early stage dementia and their carers. Individuals can share their experiences in groups, gain a better understanding about dementia and receive advice about legal issues, such as financial planning and wills. The program will run each Monday for seven weeks starting on August 18. After the initial seven weeks, participants meet monthly for six sessions. They are then encouraged to develop their own support network with the help of Alzheimer's Australia. The scheme is run as part of a national program. It is funded by the Federal Government and is provided free for par- ticipants. For details phone Lyndell Huskins at Alzheimer's Australia on 8875 4615 or the Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500.
