Feast of Italian music MUSIC lovers are being invited to Great North Rd in Five Dock on Sunday for this year's Ferragosto Festival, featuring traditional Italian and local performers. Two stages will feature a range of talents to entertain the young and old. Il palcoscenico principale, the main stage, will feature Italian folk, traditional and modern music with performances by Dolce RB, Vivia Italia, Xpresso and Coro Folcloristico della Associazione Abruzzesi. On Il palcoscenico locale, the local stage, winners of the Triple J Unearthed high will be onstage at 2.15pm, and finalists in the same competition, the Kthanxbyes, will rock out at 3.15pm. Local groups Beats 905, Five Dock Music School, RSD and Coby and The Remedy will also be performing throughout the day. Music is not the only thing that will be drawing the crowd to Great North Rd this Sunday, with all things Italian on the street. The FerraPiazza, based on a traditional Italian piazza, allows festival-goers to sip wine, admire artworks and learn about Italian culture. The piazza will be on Garfield St. There will be free rides for the kids, cooking demonstrations and market stalls for the crowd to enjoy. The State Emergency Service will have a display, attempting to recruit volunteers to help out with rescue and administration work. The event was organised by Canada Bay Council. Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said it was important to promote musicians from the Inner West. ''Council is committed to sup- porting our community and coun- cil events are a great opportunity to encourage local entertainers,'' he said.
