Inner Western Courier Thursday Not Used Anymore : August 13 2008
INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, August 14, 2008 31 STREETVIEW The armchair umpires Lorraine Cook Terry Karabelas Tash Dakos Belinda Anne McKenzie Gary Prott When it comes to the Olympic Games some viewers think they know the rules better than anyone else, but at the end of the day it's all fun and games. A few shoppers at Summer Hill got into the spirit and shared their favourite Olympic sports, some being more popular than others. Lorraine Cook, of Bondi Junction: I love watching the swimming. I like the athletics and running too, actually everything about the Olympics. It is awesome to see young kids perform the way they do like Leisel Jones. She is my favourite because I watched her grow from a girl into a young lady. Terry Karabelas, of Campsie: You can't go past swimming ... it's an Australian thing. We are all brought up with water at school and are an island so we connect to the beaches really well. I'd have to say the 100m freestyle and the medley are my favourite but I enjoy watching other sports too. I have been watching the Olympics since a kid. I completely become a sofa expert. I know nothing about it but when I watch one event, I suddenly become this ''expert''. I reckon Australia will win heaps of gold and definitely in front of our main rivals. Tash Dakos, of Lewisham: I'm not really interested in the Olympics but enjoy watch- ing athletics. It's fun and graceful. I like anything with nice bodies, for example, the aesthetics of it all. I can't watch shot-put, it gets a bit boring, and swimming gets too much coverage. I like to watch other sports not just Aussie ones. Belinda Anne McKenzie, of Banskstown: I love swimming, equestrian and tennis. I look forward to the Olympics because I enjoy watching all sports. It's just so exciting. I'm sure Beijing will put on a great show considering their circumstances. I went to the Paralympics which is just as good as the Olympics. Gary Prott, of Dulwich Hill: The football is great but I don't think Australia would be close to winning gold in the footy -- we're just not there yet. The people don't care much for the footy but there are lots of sports we will get gold in. I don't think Beijing will put on a better show than Sydney.
