MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, August 28, 2008 37 STEPPING OUT www.innerwestweekly.com.au Class pets put on show FIONA BRADY Year 9 PLC Croydon students are organising the school's annual pet show next week. CALLING all creatures, great and small (including humans). PLC Croydon is holding its annual pet show next Saturday, September 6, and locals have been invited to bring their pets along and join the fun. Among the show's attractions will be pet competitions and a baby animal petting zoo. The school's Year 9 students have organised the show to raise money for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT -- one of the school's charities of choice for more than 50 years. The students hope to raise enough money to train a guide dog. Teacher and pet show organising committee co- ordinator Thea McLean said the event was a firm favourite with students and the community. ''The pet show is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to serve the community and build a sense of respect for others and themselves,'' she said. ''They've really pulled together as a team to organise this annual event.'' The pet show, from 10am to 3pm, is at PLC Croydon, Boundary St, Croydon. Salsa in the park SPICE up your winter afternoons with a free live music extravaganza in Sydney Olympic Park. This Sunday, August 31, Club Havana Sextet, one of Sydney's favourite salsa outfits, will be performing in Newington Armory Wharf, Jamieson St, Silverwater. The fun kicks off at noon. This event is part of the Spice it Up series of lunchtime concerts taking place in Olympic Park during July and August. Activist and author talks THE Authors at Ashfield series continues next week with a talk by Canadian author and activist Maude Barlow. Her new book Blue Covenant examines the global water crisis.
