MB INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, September 4, 2008 29 Burwood comes alive for Spring Celebrations SHIREEN KHALIL BURWOOD Spring Celebrations are guaranteed to be bigger and better than ever this month. There will be non-stop entertainment from September 5 to 26, with Alvin and the Chipmunks kick-starting the celebrations this Friday at 6.30pm. The cheeky trio will be roaming Burwood Park and Burwood Rd to say hello and pose for photos. The night will then roll into the free outdoor screening of their huge summer smash hit movie, Alvin & the Chipmunks. Burwood Park will still be lively the next day between 1pm and 3pm when the Lions Club hold a sausage sizzle to celebrate the launch of the spring celebrations. The action-packed festival day on Sunday, September 7, will feature more than 200 food and merchandise stores as well as rides and live performances from 10 Inner West youth bands who will take the stage from 10am through until 9pm. They will present a mix of musical talent and thrilling martial arts demonstrations. The all-new Kid's World which features traditional fun and games for children to enjoy, as well as storytelling sessions and a cute animal petting farm also has a relaxing retreat for mothers. As the festival falls on Father's Day it is a good excuse to bring dad along to check out the impressive classic car and boat display. Dad can also show off his Elvis moves with the Elvis tribute band. Burwood will have a rest for a few days until Bollywood Nights brings the park to life again. Visitors can expect a feast of traditional Indian cuisine prepared by top chefs and a performance by spectacular Bollywood dancers from 7pm on Friday, September 12. The night will end with a free open-air screening of smash Bollywood movie, Om Shanti Om, which includes highly acclaimed Indian actor Shahrukh Khan and supermodel-turned-actress Deepika Padukone. On September 19 family and friends are encouraged to come along for the all-time greatest movie, E.T. which will air at 7pm. The BMW Driver's Club Show of Excellence which falls on September 26 at 7pm is one for the boys. It will include a range of prestigious cars from classic vintage to sleek BMW models. The Spring Celebrations will end on September 26 with another free movie night.
