A walk to jog the memory SYDNEY will join 17 other countries and hold a Memory Walk on World Alzheimer's Day on Sunday. It involves a leisurely 2km or 5km walk through the parklands at Sydney Olympic Park. Participants can buy a paper leaf, add their memories or wishes for a person with dementia and attach it to a ''memory tree''. Alzheimer's Australia NSW runs programs to support people with dementia and those who care for them and the Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500. Glasses for all to see WESTFIELD Burwood's 1001 Optical store has launched its ''Do good, look good'' humanitarian campaign in support of the Lions Australia Club. The campaign, to run throughout September, is calling for customers to donate their current or old prescription glasses. The Lions Australia Club will then recycle these glasses and distribute them in third world countries. Each customer who donates their glasses will receive $101 off a new pair. The Lions Club hopes to recycle 500,000 pairs across Australia by 2010. A call to the young CANTERBURY MP Linda Burney is calling for local young people who want to make a difference to nominate themselves for the 2009 NSW Youth Advisory Council. JPs celebrate RHODES Shopping Centre's free Justice of the Peace (JP) service celebrated its third anniversary this week. The service is staffed by seven members of the NSW Justices Association. They volunteer their time to the centre's customers who require anything from certifications to affidavits witnessed and signed. In three years more than 10,000 customers have used the service which is provided each Wednesday between 10am and noon and Saturdays between 9am and noon.
