12 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, September 18, 2008 MB NEWS MLC Burwood girls win their division at the Rock Eisteddfod. The dance of grief brings MLC award MLC Burwood has won first place in the 2008 Sydney Rock Eisteddfod Challenge. The Open Division Grand Finals were held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on September 4. The students' performance, entitled The Shades of Grief, retold the story of the Beaumont children who disappeared from Glenelg Beach in Adelaide in 1966. Dance and entertainment teacher Blake Fatouros said the students put on their best performance yet for the finals. ''The kids were over the moon,'' he said. ''They're very excited, it's the first time the school has ever placed at the event.'' The MLC team of 100 performers and 20 crew members also won awards for excel- lence in choreography, performance skill, stage use, concept, drama, soundtrack, set design and function, and lighting design. Mr Fatouros said the judges' comments reflected the moving and emotional nature of the performance. ''Considering their age, it was such an adult piece and they delivered it with sophistication.''
