14 INNER-WEST WEEKLY, Thursday, September 4, 2008 MB NEWS Students throw the 'javelin' at Abbotsford Public School's Olympathon. Picture: PHIL BLATCH ~PP186073 Kids go for gold, cheques and notes ABBOTSFORD Public School got a taste of what our Olympians went through when they held an Olympathon last Tuesday to raise funds for an outdoor cover in the infants area. Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas and State member for Drummoyne Angela D'Amore attended the fun day and donated $200 to the covered outdoor area which will provide more shelter in wet weather. Students undertook events such as jav- elin (with long cardboard tubes), the relay, gymnastics, shotput, basketball and the marathon, and wore Olympic clothes based on the national colours of their family backgrounds. ''They all did a personal best in making the event work,'' organiser Jacqueline Bivell said. ''And parents and teachers also deserve a medal for helping over 300 children around the course in just over an hour. ''We are hoping to improve on last year's total of $10,000.''
